Even though J & G Meakin was founded in 1851 it was during the 1950s & 1960s that the design revolution swept through British ceramics as they discovered the comptempory look. Meakin burst into this era with their famous studio shape. The company remained a style leader through to the 1980s when it was taken over by the Wedgewood Group & closed completly in the 1990s. The styles & designs such as Topic, Poppy , Galaxy & Impact are fast becoming very collectable

Gaytime by Lord Nelson Pottery has got to be the most iconic of 1960s designs, apparently a copy of Villeroy & Boch's Acapulco this bright and colourful transfer is highly sought after by all collecters. It has a thin glaze which is prone to crazing and also sometimes the transfer slips during firing so there is often a smudge like mark in the pattern.
